What to Bring to Gateway Casinos

Before you head over the bridge, it helps to sort out what the casino door on Bay Street asks for. The slider tool below walks you through it step by step, from your age to the ID in your pocket.

19+ with government photo ID

Door rule: age 19 and up, government-issued photo ID that is still valid, plus one more name document for anyone aged 21 or under. Self-excluded or trespassed guests of any Ontario gaming site stay out.

  1. Age
  2. Photo ID
  3. Second ID
  4. Not barred

Border documents are a separate check set by the CBSA and CBP, not by the casino.

The age line is 19

Ontario law bars anyone younger than 19 from entering or remaining in a casino, with a single exception for employees on duty. The Bay Street casino applies the same limit as its own house rule, so every guest has to be at least 19. Staff check age at the entrance, and your ID must prove it. Anyone not yet 19 will need to wait a bit longer for an evening on Bay Street.

Photo ID, and sometimes two cards

Every guest carries valid government-issued photo ID. That is the house rule, and it applies at any age, even if your hair went grey years ago.

If you are 21 or younger, think two cards, not one. The house rule asks for a secondary piece of ID with your name on it, on top of the photo ID. Keep both together so neither one stays behind in the car. Check for both before you set off for the bridge.

Two checks, two sets of rules

The casino stands near the International Bridge, which links Ontario with Michigan in the United States. Crossing that bridge has its own rules. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) sets them for entering Canada. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sets them for entering the United States.

This guide does not list border documents and does not estimate crossing times. Check the agencies' own pages before you leave. The casino door is a separate check from the border, with its own house rule.

When the door stays closed

Self-excluded people may not visit, and neither may anyone trespassed from this casino or from any gaming property in Ontario.

My PlayBreak is OLG's self-exclusion program. A casino break lasts 3 or 6 months or 1 to 5 years and bars entry to every Ontario casino. There is no ending it early once it starts. Sign-up runs through OLG's support line at 1-800-387-0098 or through casino staff.

My Club Rewards, the players card

The casino's players card is called My Club Rewards, and joining costs nothing. Staff at Guest Services issue it once you show valid ID, so the photo ID used at the door serves twice. Points build up for members on slot machines and at table games. Carry the card alongside your ID and your pocket stays uncluttered all evening.

The short pocket list

  • Carry valid government-issued photo ID, whatever your age.
  • If you are 21 or younger, also carry another ID document that shows your name.
  • Save the casino's phone number, 705-759-0100, to check hours before a holiday visit.
  • Look up the border rules on the CBSA and CBP pages before you leave.

Questions

Quick answers

Is a driver's licence on its own enough at 19?

Being 19 makes you old enough, and every guest must have valid government-issued photo ID. At 21 or younger, you also need another document bearing your name. At your age, a single card alone does not complete the set.

Does this guide tell you what to show at the border?

This guide does not list border documents or estimate crossing times. The CBSA sets the rules for entering Canada, and CBP sets them for entering the United States. Their own pages are the place to check before you leave.

Can a self-excluded person still come in just for a meal?

Self-excluded guests, whether from this casino or from any gaming property in Ontario, may not come in, and coming for dinner still counts as a visit. Once a My PlayBreak term is chosen, it cannot be shortened.

Is there a charge for a My Club Rewards card?

Joining My Club Rewards costs nothing. The card is issued at Guest Services when you present valid ID, the same photo ID shown at the door.
